Businesses in North Kensington have expressed a keen interest in more collaboration with each other and other businesses in the wider area.
Portobello Business Centre have undertaken considerable work resulting in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea asking us to proceed in partnership with the Council and local businesses to develop a Business Forum. The North Kensington Connected Business Forum was formed and held its inaugural meeting in June 2020, postponed from March due to lockdown.
So far, Portobello Business Centre have organised five virtual meetings via Zoom (following Government guidance due to the circumstances at that time) in June 2020, September 2020, November 2020, February 2021 and April 2021, one in-person event with limited numbers in July 2021 to celebrate the Forum’s anniversary, another in-person event in October 2021 with over 40 members in attendance, and an in-person festive event in December 2021.
The first Business Forum Meeting of 2022 took place on 29th March and it was once again attended by more than 40 members. It is our goal to continue running these meetings bi-monthly.
Businesses have the opportunity to meet Councillor Catherine Faulks (Lead member for Economy, Employment and Innovation), ask questions, get their answers in a friendly atmosphere, as well as to listen to experienced professionals covering interesting business topics. Our November 2020 meeting included a major Q&A session with our MP for Kensington Felicity Buchan.
North Kensington Connected (also known as “NKC”) is growing steadily and we now have over 110 businesses of differing sizes as part of the Forum. These range from sole traders to businesses with almost 50 employees. Furthermore, the Forum is now starting to make a difference with business referrals now taking place regularly between Forum members. We will also be building a dedicated discounted services offering for our members who are also kept informed and assisted with the numerous financial assistance and other measures available from the Government and RBKC Council. As businesses try to recover post COVID-19, North Kensington Connected is here to provide valuable and much-needed support.
North Kensington Connected (NKC)’s mission statement: To enable the businesses of North Kensington to develop long-term success through mutual collaboration and a network of support.
The next Business Forum Event will take place in the summer of 2022, details to follow.
